Job Description

RDFZ King’s College School Hangzhou is one of two new school development projects in China initiated through a partnership between the prestigious King’s College School, Wimbledon and the highly successful Chinese education management group, Dipont Education. A third partner for the Hangzhou project is The High School Affiliated to Renmin University (RDFZ), one of China’s leading schools. At capacity, the whole school will serve over 3,100 students from 3 to 18 years of age.

About the School

The School opened in September 2018 and is located on a lakeside site in the Yuhang District of Hangzhou. Facilities are world-class, with the space designed as a place that responds to its local context and a global education culture. An exceptional teaching and leadership team for all sections of the school has been appointed and student admission levels are excellent.

Hangzhou, with a population of over 9 million people, is the capital of Zhejiang Province and an important city in China, recognised for its history, prosperity and beautiful natural scenery. It recently hosted the G-20 summit and will stage the Asian Games in 2022. Shanghai can be accessed within 1 hour by high-speed train.

About the Role

Reporting to either the Head of Elementary or Head of International Section (dependent upon the particular role), successful applicants will join the school in August 2019. In the Chinese Elementary School, a bilingual curriculum is delivered based on the Chinese National Curriculum delivered with international teaching methodology and content. The International Section delivers a programme based on the UK National Curriculum. There is a shared pedagogical approach throughout the campus, enabling Chinese and expatriate students to benefit enormously from the cross-cultural exposure.

In the Elementary School, classes are shared between a Chinese and an English speaker, with Chinese-speaking assistants supporting pupils in language learning. This approach creates a genuinely bilingual learning environment. An international teacher teaches English, mathematics and science (with some co-teaching) while a Chinese teacher teaches Chinese and humanities subjects, and shares some of the mathematics teaching.

Project-based learning supports independent and cooperative learning, while there is emphasis on exploration, investigation and creative thinking.

These exciting and challenging roles command a highly competitive salary and benefits package, including high-quality housing; flights for employee and dependents and medical insurance for employee and dependents. Full tuition support will be provided for any successful applicant with school-age children. The position will be offered on an initial three-year contract term with annual renewal thereafter.

Applications are invited from candidates with:

  • Excellent classroom practice in either lower or upper primary education
  • The ability to work collaboratively and contribute to the development of an outstanding school

Early application preferred with interview dates in the UK and Ireland through November and December 2018.  Interviews and information sessions will be held in Belfast on the 17th November and Dublin on the 18th November.
